The fourth event of the 2024 Perth Junior Speed Chess League was held on Sunday 17th November at Perth Modern School and attracted 51 participants.
There were 16 participants rated over 1000, making this the strongest Perth Junior Speed Chess League event so far. Despite this, there were many upsets during the event with many intermediate level players, and even some novice players, scoring nice wins against far more experienced opponents.
The event was convincingly won by Quang Minh Le who finished the event undefeated with a score of 8.5 points. In fact, Quang Minh's performance was so strong that he had the tournament victory sealed before the start of the last round. An amazing performance.
Second place was shared between Albert Chen and Ethan Page, both showing very strong performances, scoring 7 points. There was a three-way tie for fourth place between Shawn Boby, Florentyna Rithauddin and Uudamkhishig Togtmol, all scoring 6.5 points.
The Intermediate division was very close and exciting with five players tied for first place at the end, all scoring 5.5 points. Zeno Brackenridge, Alex Chan, Uranbaigali Uuganbaatar, Alex Low and Shijirgun Nyamdari all had very strong finishes to the tournament. They all received first place trophies.
There were four intermediate division players only half a point behind: Oscar Chan, Shijirkhutag Nyamdari, Anay Patro and Damsara Perera. Overall, it was a very close contest.
The Novice Division was won by Chloe Seow with a score of 4.5. Chloe had some excellent results throughout the day, in some cases drawing and even beating opponents hundreds of rating points higher than her. Only half a point behind Chloe, there was a five-way tie for second place between Isaac Wu, Teddy Sprigg, Monol Lee, Erdem Dush and Hugo Vojkovich, all scoring 4 points.
